The Future of Food Insecurity

With rising food costs, proposed tariffs, and increasing economic uncertainties, we at Bremerton Foodline are preparing for a significant surge in demand. The challenges are mounting, but so is our determination to support the community.

More than half of all food-insecure U.S. households had at least one adult working full time.

Just this past week, we served a record-breaking 158 households in a single day. To put that into perspective, before March 2023—when additional SNAP benefits provided during COVID were still in effect—our highest daily number was in the 40s. Since those benefits ended, our numbers have practically tripled, and we now assist dozens of households every day we are open. Each one of these shopping experiences costs at least $100, and that money saved makes a huge difference to each of our clients.

Food insecurity affects everyone.

So, what can we do about it?

At Bremerton Foodline, we are steadfast in our mission to combat hunger. Our goal remains providing 50% of a household’s weekly groceries, a commitment that becomes increasingly crucial as more families face financial hardship. We don’t just address immediate needs; we also aim to eliminate the root causes of hunger.

How can you help?

As a member of our community, your support is vital. Here’s how you can make a difference:

  • Spread the word: Share our mission with your friends, family, and neighbors to amplify awareness about food insecurity in our area.
  • Donate financially: Cash donations are incredibly impactful, allowing us to purchase food in bulk at discounted rates. This helps us maximize resources and meet the growing demand.
  • Volunteer: Whether it’s packing groceries or assisting with logistics, your time and effort can directly support families in need.

The road ahead is challenging, but we’ve faced adversity before and emerged stronger. Together, as a united community, we can tackle hunger head-on and ensure that no one goes to bed hungry.

Join us on this journey—because no one should have to face food insecurity alone.
